The call of leadership is something to which only the very best divers aspire. Perhaps you just want to be able to assist with classes and conduct guided dives for certified divers. On the other hand, you may want to go all the way and learn how to teach others to dive, while building a full- or part-time career. Here are the steps involved:
Divemaster
Divemaster training develops your leadership abilities by teaching you how to organize and supervise dive activities, as well as how to assist instructors with student divers. Divemasters work with local dive centers, on liveaboard dive boats, yachts and at exotic resort locations.
Assistant Instructor
Assistant Instructor training is the next-to-final step in the process of becoming a fully certified Open Water Instructor. Candidates learn the fundamentals of putting together academic, confined water and open water teaching presentations. Once certified, they can teach beginning divers under Instructor supervision — and even teach some courses independently.
Open Water Instructor
This is the final step in the instructor development process. Candidates make a number of academic, confined water and open-water teaching presentations, as well as learn more about continuing education and the business of diving. At the end of the course, candidates attend a two-day evaluation program to achieve their final certification.
